On Saturday, October 24, 2009 Norfolk Master Gardener Volunteers and KMC Community Gardeners joined forces to prepare for the new Rain Garden project. Hardscape was removed and plant material relocated in anticipation of the City of Norfolk's excavation machinery. After repairs to the existing storm drain, a swale and French drains will be dug and moisture-loving ornamentals planted to assist with abatement of rainwater runoff from the adjacent parking lot.
Many hands made light work, and the team was outta there in just a couple of hours!
Three months later, the garden all but disappeared under a beautiful six inches of rare southeastern Virginia snowfall!
